Eclipse

Just read the 4 issue ‘Eclipse’ miniseries from Top Cow.
Very cool concept; set 10 years after a solar flare has burned away the ozone layer, exposure to the sun can now kill you instantly, so humans live under the cities and only come out in the dark. But an almost inhuman killer is on the prowl in the ruins of Manhattan, who can survive the sunlight and uses it as a deadly weapon; almost like a vampire in reverse.

This is Zack Kaplan’s first comic script, and to be honest, the characterisation is a bit weak, scene transitions are choppy and the dialogue is fairly bland. However, the artwork is fantastic, by Giovanni Timpano; like the best of John Cassaday and Geoff Darrow, with some stunning cityscapes and excellent storytelling. With a better script, this could have been a real gem, but it still gets a soft recommendation if you are looking for an original spin on a b-movie horror thriller.
